dance arts center is a maximalist electronic music group consisting of Nicolette Norgaard, Jane Westman, and Deb Long, all played by Norgaard herself. Norgaard used to work in theater, but started producing music when her ex boyfriend's best friend gave her an Ableton lesson during Covid lockdown. dance arts center was started by Norgaard and her best friend Sara Silva, but Silva quit the band to focus on being an actor. Norgaard then focused on making the music herself and leaned into her own metafictional universe, which has culminated in the debut mixtape "dance arts center presents".

Styled like a fictional Broadway cast recording, complete with an overture and entr'acte, the music integrates synth-heavy dance music with melodic hooks and thoughtful songwriting that is as influenced by Daft Punk as it is by Stephen Sondheim. The live show is as influenced by Daft Punk as it is by Stephen Sondheim. The live show is a vaudeville-style cabaret, with skits, choreo, and routines that have ended up being different every show thus far. Whether online or onstage, DAC combines the high-brow with the low-brow, pushing the boundaries of what music and theater are "supposed" to be.
